Veil Nebula Complex

The Veil Nebula is a super nova remnant in the constellation Cygnus.  The image above shows the entire complex of nebulosity spanning about 3.5 degrees horizontally.  The nebula is generally classified as two separate nebulae, Veil Nebula East and Veil Nebula West.  Visually, the nebulae appear grayish in color with beautiful twining and twists within the brighter portions of the nebulae.  An OIII filter greatly enhances this detail especially with larger telescopes.  The Veil is situated astride the Milky Way, as does its parent constellation, creating a very rich star field to act as a back drop to these beautiful structures.
